Patched up but still melting is an umbrella company that houses various artists of all different shapes, sizes, and sensibilities.
Based in the lolling grassy hills just outside Cambridge, and set up in the latter half of 2005, the company was originally intended to be used as a conduit through which to vent the bristling widescreen-indie sensation that is smdge. upon the world, but quickly hurtled out of control, gathering more and more collaborators and talented youth as it strained to break loose.
With the official site finally opening on Halloween 2005, it is in a constant process of evolution as it shuffles towards its final composition. Eventually it will cradle a cluster of artistry, some for sale in its exclusive shop, and others available to browse as potential portfolios in its grand ‘sky between branches building'. This is a virtual housing for all of patched up but still melting's acquaintances, including forays into the world of music, animation, films, graphic novels/comics, novella, short stories, poetry, reviews, illustration, and design based media.
With contributors such as Damien Mullen, Sasha Garwood, Russell Garwood, Felicity Luther, Al White, Tom McCann, Gary Butcher, and many more, it is an enticing collection of portfolios for potential employers or merely browsers to peruse.
With the shop offering the debut albums and eps and singles from such an eclectic offering as the in-your-ear acoustic bedroom musings of ‘the polar bear equation' and ‘freshly dead', the sliced laid-back hip hop of ‘the butcher boy', the whispered electronica, intricate emo, and anthem indie (each in turn) of ‘smdge.' the blistering 80's throwback sensation of ‘Kcasino' and the upcoming atmospherics of ‘down in autumn' it is a section not to miss. Especially since a beautifully designed set of t-shirts are available that are prominent in aesthetics and refrained style rather than promotion.
Alongside all of this exists the ‘I am a message' which offers various facts and our own personal musings on a variety of ethical, moral, and environmental issues including deforestation, fair trade, arms/weapons trading, drug dealing, the black market and so on. We hope to help affect and reflect in a positive way, and intend to help to leave the world a better place than when we came into it.
Eventually, ‘patched up but still melting' will also include the link to ‘smdge.s island', his very own paradise of demos, activities, opinions, secrets, tour dates, discography, and the history of this elusive artist.
